Introduction to the Artists for Kids Clay Kit

Part 2: October 19, 3:30-5:00pmIn this two-part hands-on clay workshop, ceramics artist Amelia Butcher will walk you through a lesson designed specifically for elementary grades. The artist will share practical tips and techniques for managing materials and teaching clay techniques to elementary students. Teachers are able to sign out the Artists for Kids Clay Kit to use in their schools for a two-week period. In this kit, teachers will have all the tools needed to complete the clay lesson taught in this two-part workshop series.
Workshops will cover the following topics: managing materials in the classroom, hand building techniques, sculpting with clay, press molds, planning and design process, drying and firing clay artworks. There will be a cup variation of the project shared for those who have attended the log workshop previously.

Register: Printmaking, Transfer, and Assemblage: A Gallery Workshop (external site)This hands-on workshop introduces “Collect, Assemble, Gather”, the Gordon Smith Gallery’s Fall 2026 exhibition. Participants will use linocut printmaking, rubbing, and image transfer to create an assembled artwork exploring memory, consumer culture, resources, and sustainability, with Social Studies connections.

Print, Repeat, Collect: A Block Printmaking Workshop
Register: Print, Repeat, Collect: A Block Printmaking Workshop (external site)Join artist Marlene Yuen for a hands-on block-printing workshop inspired by her artwork Pockets of Time, on exhibit at the Gordon Smith Gallery. You will learn about Marlene’s block-printing process and explore how repetition and collections can be used to tell visual stories. You will learn the fundamentals of transferring an image to linoleum, carving a printing block, and producing a unique print inspired by a meaningful collection.
